How this started

Garrett Mercer spent more than a decade working construction and hauling across the north-metro area before buying a single truck and one container in 2016. The reason was straightforward: he had spent years waiting on containers that turned up late, turned up in the wrong size, or turned up with a price that changed once the load crossed a scale - and watching out-of-county haulers pass the transfer station's higher out-of-county fees straight on to Cobb customers.

Ten years on we run a fleet across Acworth, Cobb County and the north-metro lakes, and the operating principle has not moved. Tell people the truth about what they need, protect the property, and charge the number that was quoted.

What we actually do differently

We are local, and it lowers your cost. Cobb County charges out-of-county haulers a $70 minimum per ton, while residents pay a $14 minimum for the first 400 pounds. As a Cobb operator we dispose at the in-county rate, so our cost base on a local job is genuinely lower than a hauler coming in from Cherokee, Bartow or Paulding County - and that shows up in the price.

We recommend smaller containers. This one surprises people. Dense material - tile, mortar, the heavy red Georgia clay - reaches a container's tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty. Recommending the 15 yard instead of the 20, or a dedicated 10 for the clay, costs us revenue and saves the customer money. We do it anyway.

We know the lakes. Acworth is the Lake City, and lakeside work has its own quirks - sloped and tree-shaded lots, careful placement, dock and deck debris. We plank on every delivery, set containers level on a slope, and place so nothing marks a landscaped drive or blocks the view.

One number, covered loads. The flat rate covers delivery, seven days, collection, disposal at the in-county rate and a stated tonnage allowance, with the overage rate quoted in the same breath. And every load leaves covered, as Cobb County requires on the way to the transfer station. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee appearing on an invoice for the first time.

Why local knowledge matters here

The north metro is growing fast, which means the work splits two ways. New construction and newer-home remodels produce bulky, light debris that wants a larger container. Renovation of older homes around historic downtown Acworth and the older lake cottages gives up dense material that wants a smaller one. And nearly every job that moves earth produces the heavy red clay that needs its own box.

Then there is the transfer station and the city. Disposing in-county keeps costs down; the city will not collect construction or bulky waste so the container fills that gap; clean yard waste has its own county route; and every load must be covered. A company that works Cobb every day knows all of it. We quote each job on what it actually is, and we will explain the difference if you want to hear it.

• Shelby Vance — Operations Manager. Runs the schedule, the swaps and the contractor accounts, and knows which lakeside and county roads a loaded truck can and cannot manage. If you need a same-day swap, she is the one who makes it happen.
• Tyler Boone — Lead Driver. Has been placing containers on Acworth driveways and sloped lake lots for years and sizes a load by eye better than most. If he says a 30 will not fit your lot, it will not fit.
• Marisa Kent — Customer Care Lead. First voice on the phone most mornings, and the person who will walk you through what can and cannot go in the container.
